 In his TED Talk, Clifford Stoll spoke about quite a few different things. Actually, he said he was not going to speak about those things but did a little bit anyway. He spoke a little about physics and his current hobby with physics. He spoke about his educational journey, specifically a mentor that the had early in his college career. He stated in his talk that he thoguht that all computers should be removed from the classroom, but I do not believe that he thought that all technology should be removed. In fact, he used some old technology to show an example of a lesson. that he teaches eighth graders. He used sound waves and frequency to calculate the speed of sound. I found the lesson to be very engaging and effective. In it, he measured the length of a sound wave then used that and its frequency to calculate the speed of sound. Teaching students about digital safety is new to me. In the past I have been more of an old school teacher who focused on what not to do and severely limited student access. However, as I am learning more about using technology in my classroom, I am learning that I will have to loosen the reigns and allow my students to explore more. That will require teaching them what to do instead of telling them what not to do or limiting their access.  As I begin to transform my classroom into more of a digital classroom, my students and I will discuss how their are many amazing resources online, at our fingertips, but we must be careful how we use the powerful tools of technology.  We cannot allow technology to distract us from learning. When we are in using computers in class, you must remain on topic. If we are working together, then you need to remain on the site that we are all working on.  Welcome to my blog for EDU 625. My name is Michelle Kintner, and I am an 8th grade math teacher in the Gulfport School District. I am very excited to learn more about using technology in my classroom. I have recently been challenged with implementing an honors math class but have only been given vague guidelines on how this class is supposed to look. As I delve more into the world of technology in the classroom, I think that using technology to possibly flip my classroom might be a key component to this honors class. I am looking forward to learning other ways that I can implement technology into my classroom as I increase the rigor and create a more student centered classroom.
